Minutes of the 19th Annual General Meeting of the Telephone Retirees Association of
Manitoba Inc. (TRAM) held on Tuesday, May29th. 1:00 PM ,2018, at, the Masonic
Memorial Temple 420 Corydon Avenue, Winnipeg Manitoba,
1. The meeting was called to order at 1:15 p.m. by President Dave Gnutel
2. Dave Gnutel asked Tony Leonard to lead the meeting in the singing of O Canada
3. President Dave Gnutel asked for “A Moment of Silence”, to observe the lives of
members/beneficiaries who passed away in 2017.
4. Darlene Huyin Buan presented the scrutinizers report.

Total 228 (This represents 16 % of the membership)
**NOTE: There were a total of 178 proxies received.
Based on the total number of members present and proxies received Dave Gnutel declared
that a quorum was achieved and the meeting was duly constituted.
5. Minutes of May 31th, 2017.
Moved by Glen McCoubey, seconded by, Roberta Davis, to adopt the minutes of the
2017 AGM held on May 31st. 2017 CARRIED
6. Financial Report
Moved by Kin Kim Pododworny, seconded by, Darlene Huyin, Buan to receive the audited
financial report for 2017, as circulated
CARRIED
Questions
Tony Leonard asked about the money left over in the trust account. ( Reserved for legal
expenses)
As past treasurer Roberta Davis stated that all the money in the account had been spent and
that there was no surplus.
Kim P. will look into last year’s report

Moved by, Kim Pododworny, seconded by Dave Doug Klippel, to adopt the 2017 budget
as circulated CARRIED

7. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Membership
Moved by Debra Akister, seconded by Doug Quail, to receive the membership report,
CARRIED
Debra gave a brief oral report on the state of our membership.
Active members: 1634
Inactive/Deceased members: 12
Of the active members, 1405 are employees and 229 are spouses of deceased members

Luncheon
Adrianne K. gave a brief presentation on the 2018 luncheon. Due to some comments on parking
Etc. it has been decided to look into holding the luncheon at the Viscount Gort for this year.
Blue Cross
Dave Gnutel gave a brief report on the ongoing negotiations with Hub Strata and Blue Cross
with regards to benefits and costs.
TRAM is now at 115% of our reserve funds in the plan.
We are still trying to develop the best plan we can for our members
We are looking at changing the plan to allow buy in
It was suggested that we should look into an open enrollment policy.
MTS pension and surplus implementation plan report
Larry Trach reported on the status of the surplus funds.
He stated that current employees cannot have access to the funds, and that only employees who
paid into the original fund will get final payouts. At this time he feels the payout will be around
the $200.00 mark but reminded everyone that this is an estimate only and will be subject to
revision.
There is a meeting scheduled for June 19th at which time Larry feels that the distribution matter
will be finalized.
The latest pension meeting was held on November 28th 2017. At that time the pension
investments were taken over by Bell Corp.
Presidents Report
Dave reported that he and others were having difficulties dealing with Bell
Some outstanding issues are membership cards for TRAM members, availability of corporate
discounts for all MTS employees, and ongoing efforts at building alliances with other Bell Corp
Groups.

Moved by James Burr, seconded by, Roberta Davis, to receive the Website report as presented.

The nomination committee reported that the following people were willing to stand for office

MOTION:
Moved by, Tony Leonard, seconded by, Darlene Baun Buan, to approve and elect the
proposed slate of officers for 2018.

12, New Business
As per the mail outs to the membership the executive put forward a motion to ask the
membership to elect J Larry Trach as the TRAM representative to the MTS DB
Pension Plan Committee, and to extend voting privileges to this position at all further
TRAM board meetings for the next year

Moved by Dave Gnutel, seconded by Jack Quail to adopt the above motion as circulated.

13 Introduction of the new executive
At this time Dave Gnutel introduced the new slate of members of the board.
Outstanding questions (the TRAM executive will attempt to get answers to the following
questions as soon as practicable)
Can MTS employees get BELL share purchase plans?
As ex MTS employees can we benefit from any existing Bell Plans?
Will or is Bell looking at any reduction of employee benefits.
